- You know when your kid is sick and can’t find a position in bed comfortable enough to sleep because she’s feeling so ick? When they finally find that sweet spot to doze off, you’d do anything to not disturb that position. Even if it means you end up sleeping upright all night, or with only Totoro as a pillow. That’s motherhood.
- It’s also a badge of honour to be calm in the middle of a vomiting spree ala The Exorcist. There you are covered in tonight’s up chucked dinner but still calm and comforting to the teary toddler who is also covered in slimy goo. You find the sanity to organise what to do next so they can go back to sleep with as very little disturbance as possible. The next day, you deal with the aftermath almost forgetting to wash your hair, now stiff with dried vomit.
- While sitting there waiting to make sure she’s finally settled and won’t vomit anymore, I thank God for iPhones. With a towel on my lap and my iPhone in both hands, I while away the time playing Bejeweled Blitz. But I’m also quick enough to know the sounds of when she’s about to vomit. It’s a skill I’ve almost perfected.
- I would like this phase over please. The phase where I smell like vomit every night. That would be nice.
- You knit them scarf after scarf, beanie after beanie but for some reason they still want what you’re wearing instead of their own.
- Save water. Instead of pre washing your dirty dishes before the dishwasher cycle, why not let your dogs lick them instead. Clean in seconds with not a drop of water used. Eco-friendly.
- It’s nice when I get emails from work and the people I interviewed about how happy they were with the article. I’ve been used to feeling that if there was no call/email then that means there are no complaints. But it’s good to have the occasional “way to go”.
- MiniMe’s over TV. She doesn’t like watching TV anymore and is not into her old and new DVDs. She can sit through a whole movie in the cinema but not at home. I should really be happy she got over the TV thing, but at the same time, it means I can’t entertain her with TV stuff when I need to do other things – like maybe take a shower, or cook dinner or do the laundry. Oh well.
- I’ve been letting MiniMe sleep in till 11am for several days this week. I think she needs the sleep to recover from her cold and cough. But sometimes, there is a part of me that nags that I’m being such a sissy mother, that I’m wasting the money we’ve already paid the daycare by not putting her in there. But in the end, the good voice of reason prevails. It is just money. She’s sick and she needs her sleep and rest far more than being at daycare.

Oh dear I hate the occasional night pee leaks let alone full-on vomiting! Big hugs and hope the little one gets well soon.

I am going to touch some wood right now – done – because I’ve never had to go through a really bad vomiting bug with any of my little children. But there have been plenty of other sleepless nights due to various ailments and thank god iPhones were invented.

I’ll touch wood as well, only a couple of events in two years. I was a panicking mess but my wife, as you described stayed cool calm, collected throughout – badge earned

MMmM my daughter has a cold/cough – and I let her sleep in this morning instead of getting her in daycare at 7am.. they definitely need the rest more than the play!!!

I shouldn’t have…but I couldn’t help but laugh while reading this. I think it’s coz I know you so well in the real life that this post is just so you in your element.
I could totally see you sitting up in bed playing Bejewelled Blitz waiting for your little one to have her next chuck.
Seriously though. I hope MiniMe gets better soon. Poor little Poppet.
And yes! Don’t worry about the money! It’s just money!!!
